When a Tooth Needs to Come Out
Nobody wants to hear they need a tooth pulled, and at Goodshine Dental, extraction is never our first recommendation. We only suggest removing a tooth when it is genuinely the best path forward for your oral health, whether that is due to severe decay, infection, crowding, or a wisdom tooth that is causing problems.
When extraction is necessary, our focus is on making the experience as comfortable and stress free as possible. We take the time to explain why removal is the right choice for your situation, walk you through the procedure in advance, and protect the surrounding teeth and bone throughout treatment.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions in Tamarac, FL
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last teeth to come in, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. For many patients, there simply is not enough room in the jaw for these teeth to erupt properly, which can lead to impaction, crowding, infection, or damage to nearby teeth. Common signs that a wisdom tooth may need to come out include pain at the back of the jaw, swelling or tenderness in the gums, difficulty opening your mouth fully, or noticeable shifting in your other teeth.
We evaluate wisdom teeth using a combination of exam findings and digital X-rays to determine their position and whether removal is recommended. Many patients choose to have problematic wisdom teeth removed proactively, before they cause pain or damage nearby teeth, rather than waiting for a dental emergency to force the issue.

Recovering Comfortably After Your Extraction
Recovery from a tooth extraction is usually straightforward, especially when you follow a few key steps in the days afterward. Most patients experience mild swelling or discomfort for a day or two, which can typically be managed with over the counter pain relief and a cold compress. It is important to avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, or vigorous rinsing in the first 24 hours, since these actions can disturb the blood clot that protects the extraction site and lead to a painful condition called dry socket.
Sticking to soft foods for the first few days, keeping the area clean, and avoiding strenuous activity will help you heal faster and more comfortably. If you notice increasing pain, swelling, or fever after the first couple of days, contact our office so we can check on your healing progress.
